I decided to test on a Monday morning, in light of some questionable drain connections (?) Dan, Aaron, and Brady found north of M-179 while hiking the Cuddy last summer. The numbers point out a need for further investigation…..
With the exception of the northwestern part – I’m actually happy with these numbers. This is probably the “status quo” for a small stream meandering through agricultural lands and forests. There’s no signs of manure spreading within our watershed this spring, so these numbers probably reflect what simply lives in the soils, plus any wildlife “donations” (and that might explain the high number at 4th St North, which is normally quite low). I didn’t test further down the Cuddy Channel, but usually the numbers drop by half where the Drain meets the Channel. I still feel the water in the Channel is safe for “partial body contact”.
